The Hoofdgebouw will be closed as from December 23, 2014. Also the walkways to and from the Hoofdgebouw will be closed. As from January 19, 2015, the fences will be placed around the construction area.
TU/e can now start on the renovation of its Main Building. The municipality of Eindhoven today approved the demolition permit. The architectural vision chosen for the renovation is that of design team RSVP (consisting of Team V Architectuur, Van Rossum, Valstar Simonis and Peutz ). The plan aims to retain the original appearance of Van Embden architects from the 1960s. With its 16 storeys, the building will have a new and modern interior, energy-efficient installations and highly insulating glass curtain wall.
Because she reprimands the students of Industrial Design whenever they make a mess. Because she and Lucid ‘just can´t live without each other’. Because she makes the very best coffee and is considered the ‘basis of ID’. Because of that and a dozen other reasons, Lucid launched a petition to keep cleaning lady Alie Wenting, so she can stay on after the departmental move from Hoofdgebouw to Laplace.
Last Thursday, the Supervisory Board OK’d the renovation plans for the Hoofdgebouw. The renovation will be divided over three sub-projects: the move of all residents before 2015, followed by demolition and asbestos remediation until mid 2016, and finally a two-and-a-half-year reconstruction. By the end of 2018, the building will be housing two departments, eight supporting services, and the Executive Board.
Approximately two-thirds of campus residents will be involved in what may be the largest campus ‘sliding puzzle’ ever: emptying the Hoofdgebouw for renovations, and all moves and adjustments that go with it. Some departments will have to downsize considerably, and several buildings may not be able to cope with the temporary population growth.
The residents of Laplace (ICT Services and CEC) will have to make way for Industrial Design. The current Laplace residents were informed about the situation last Friday afternoon. Until the Hoofdgebouw is fully renovated –in 2019– Industrial Design will be housed in Laplace. 2014 will be challenging for Real Estate Management, because large part of TU/e has to move this year.
It will only be at the end of the year that the Executive Board will announce when in 2014 they'll decide on a start date for the Hoofdgebouw refurbishment. Eventually, the Departments of Industrial Design and Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences, and eight services are to be housed in the building.
The renovation will include major stripping, after which it will be refurbished and fitted with a brand new façade.
The Hoofdgebouw at TU/e will be given a new look. Large-scale renovation of the building has started already. In 2018, the Hoofdgebouw be the new home base of the departments of Industrial Design and Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences, the Executive Board, and all supporting services (excluding STU).
