Universities tentatively satisfied with coalition agreement

Although they had several comments, universities are still tentatively happy with the coalition agreement by VVD and PvdA. “The new government is ambitious, but there are still many things that need to be filled in. The devil is in the details.”

Universities are especially happy about the promised 150 million euro that will be reserved for scientific research. They’re not too pleased with the cancellation of the basic student grant. The millions that will be coming in after implementation of the social loan systems will not be used for higher education per se, but for education and research in general. Board member mr. Jo van Ham said the Executive Board agrees with the official statement made by VSNU.
