Buddha's back

The Buddha that was once the centerpiece of a solar-powered installation has returned to the pond next to Zwarte Doos on Wednesday afternoon, along with six eggs fitted with solar panels and new cables. Once the software that's in charge of controlling the artwork is completed, the buddha will start working. And in this case, that means he'll rise in daylight and drop at night.

The statue has been tested and secured on Wednesday. It will stay that way until the software has been optimized and it's clear how the buddha functions. For now, six working solar-paneled eggs will bob around the pond. The other eggs will remain, but have no influence on the buddha.

The artwork, officially named SOH19 States of Nature was made by artist Alex Vermeulen in 2006 for a project initiated by Physics students. It didn't work properly before, but it is expected to do well now because of the new hydraulic system.
