Tough start cashless test Sports Center

Teething problems nearly caused the pilot for cashless payment at the Student Sports Center to fail. Wim Koch, director of the Sports Center, has said so. The new system experienced so many technical failures from the get-go that many members chose not to participate in the test. According to Koch the system is currently "90 percent stable" and its first users are "downright positive".

It was a serious letdown that MyOrder - the mobile payment service of Rabobank - had so many technical issues upon its introduction two months ago. Problems included regular connectivity issues between the scanner and the sevice's central server. "That wasn't great publicity", Koch admits. "People were excited to try the new system, and it's a shame if the system fails several times."

The pilot, which was introduced to minimize the cashflow in the Sports Center, was temporarily shut down in attempt to tackle the issues. Right now, Koch claims the system is "90 percent stable. On very few occasions, the scanner doesn't recognize the sticker (with a chip, ed.) in which case payment can't be registered. MyOrder and our own people are now trying to figure why that is."

Koch says that approximately three hundred payment stickers have been issued. He wants to continue the pilot at least until mid September, so the Sports Center canninclude the start of the new academic year, and so a busier period.

Koch hopes the system will be picked up around campus, so it can be integrated in the campus card. After all, students and faculty have that with them anyway. Martin Boers, head of Internal Affairs, says that caterer Eurest wants to try out the MyOrder system, too. After the summer break, they will probably start their pilot at a single location, probably MetaForum.
