Professor Wil Kling deceased

On Saturday March 14th prof. ir. Wil Kling, chair of the group Electrical Energy Systems of the department of Electrical Engineering, has passed away. He deceased from natural causes, in Hangzhou, China during a business trip shortly before returning home to The Netherlands.

Wil Kling (64) received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands, in 1978. From 1978 to 1983 he worked with Kema, from 1983 to 1998 with Sep and since then up till the end of 2008 he was with TenneT, the Dutch Transmission System Operator, as senior engineer for network planning and network strategy. Since 1993 he was part-time Professor at Delft University of Technology and since 2000 also at TU/e.

From December 2008 he was appointed as a full professor and chair of Electrical Power Systems group at TU/e. He was leading research programs on distributed generation, integration of wind power, network concepts and reliability issues. Kling was involved in scientific organizations such as Cigre and IEEE. He was the Dutch representative in the Study Committee Distribution Systems and Dispersed Generation within CIGRE.

During an informal meeting Saturday afternoon, staff members and students from the EES group have been personally informed about this dreadful news. The passing of Kling came as an enormous shock to the department of Electrical Engineering.

Wil Kling will be remembered as a passionate and loyal colleague who has contributed immensely to the department and the EES group. "We are grateful for his cooperation and contributions and will miss him dearly."

A condolence register has been set up in Flux room 0.306 to offer the opportunity to everybody to share thoughts and reflections. This register will be given to his relatives afterwards. There is an online condolence register as well.
