Director Eneco new TU/e leading light for Energy

The TU/e Executive Board has appointed Laetitia Ouillet as director of the Strategic Area (SA) Energy. She succeeds Rick Harwig, who had led the SA since 2010. Ouillet begins in her new role on 1 June.

In her new role, Laetitia Ouillet (38) will lead the SA Energy lobby, shaping the acquisition of new research assignments. Ouillet wants to promote program and consortium co-creation with external parties, with a focus on boosting (external) tertiary funding from the Brainport region, the Dutch government and the European investment program Horizon 2020.

For Ouillet the move to TU/e is a logical one. She sees it as an exceptional opportunity to contribute to relevant research. “The current energy transition appears to be driving the whole energy sector to search for new products and services, whereby the research and development of new technology are vital. Also in helping policymakers and companies to make the right choices. For instance, to hit the climate targets with the least possible impact on society. The challenge is about bringing together the best of both worlds. I also hope to attract TU/e students to the energy sector, which is the best subject there is in my opinion.”

Ouillet has been director of corporate strategy at energy company Eneco since 2013. Heading a team of three corporate strategy consultants and four fundamentals analysts she designed Eneco’s renewed strategy, launched mid 2015.

She studied Economics and Applied Economics at the Université Paris Dauphine (France) and gained her postgraduate degree in Strategic Business Analysis and her Master’s in European Environmental Regulation from Lancaster University (UK). She also followed a post-academic specialization in Dutch and European Competition Law at the Grotius Academy.

Ouillet has a solid track record in the energy market and is co-founder of SQ Consult (2009), an international network of experts in energy transition, sustainability and climate policy. Before this, she held a number of different jobs at Nuon for seven years, including Manager Strategy and Business Planning within the Marketing and Sales department and Manager Regulatory and Governmental Affairs within the Merger and Acquisition team.

Strengthen the network

“Laetitia Ouillet is a real gain for TU/e,” says Jan Mengelers, president of the TU/e Executive Board. “She comes to us from the field, has worked for two major energy companies, has a broad educational background and is connected. She is able to put things in a broader context with an eye for the details. This is someone who is open and direct, capable of sharp analysis and with strong dynamism. In her role as initiator for Energy she will strengthen the network of the university.”

In the coming months Laetitia Ouillet will be winding back her current job commitment at Eneco so as to combine it with her new role at the university.
