Master's Intro new this year; separate international Intro abolished

This year TU/e will run an Introduction Week for Master's students, the Master's Kick-off. Additionally, a separate Intro Week for international students is no longer being held; they will join in the Bachelor's or Master's Intro. The program for the Bachelor's Intro is broadly the same as it was last year.

All new Bachelor's students get to know one another and TU/e from August 21 through 25. Now for the first time a Master's Kick-off will be held, in the following week, from August 28 through 31. Master's students new to TU/e as well as those who completed their Bachelor's here will be eligible to participate. The former separate program for international students has been abolished - they used to become acquainted with TU/e in the week preceding the Bachelor's Intro.

Jessica van de Ven of the Education and Student Service Center, who coordinates the Intro, explains the decision, “The international Master's students used to join in the Bachelor's Intro, but consequently did not get to know the Dutch students in their year group. What's more, they had already gotten to know each other in the preceding week.” A day will be set aside for practical matters to be arranged; international students used to be able to deal with these matters in the week preceding the Bachelor's Intro.

The program for the Bachelor's Intro will be largely the same as in previous years. “We have arranged for another Groene Loper Market, the City Tour/Student Life and various workshops,” says Mayra Goevaerts of the Intro Committee. “We have asked the associations not to put on the same display three days straight but to demonstrate their own distinctive powers. In addition, throughout the week, the Intro groups will compete with each other by completing assignments via a new web application.” The artists performing at the closing party All TU/egether, intended for all TU/e students and employees, will be announced on Facebook in the coming weeks.

The activities for participants of the Master's Kick-off will include resolving issues on the theme of smart cities, an introduction to businesses, and a sports tournament. The definite program has yet to be announced on the intro site and via email.
