Snoozing until the very last moment

The early bird catches the worm, as the saying goes. In the chilly darkness of an early morning in winter that's something a lot of people find they don't give a hoot about. We grumpily refuse to get up, preferring to pull the comforter over our head and snoozing until the evil moment can no longer be avoided - especially students, who tend to be ‘late chronotypes’ with a biological clock unlike anyone else's. So what's a good way to wake up?

A lecture about both sleeping effectively and getting the day off to a good start; it would have made a perfect first period. But study association GEWIS (Mathematics & Computer Science) gave due consideration to its target group and played it safe, scheduling a lunchtime slot this past December 18th. And what a popular lunchtime lecture it proved to be. “A lot of people are apparently interested in the subject,” remarked organizer Arend Verbeek, with a smile.

In a similar vein, Cursor's Mathias Verheijden delved into the art of waking up and spoke to students (about how they peel themselves out of bed in the morning) and experts (about scientific explanations, do’s and don’ts). Watch his video below.
