MetaForum library to remain open during Christmas vacation

The library in MetaForum will remain open to students during the Christmas vacation. This is happening for the first time in years. "Different times require different measures," says Paul Hofman, department head at Library Services. "By doing this, we hope we can accommodate people's needs, particularly those of our internationals who cannot get home during this period."

The request to keep the library open - for the first time in years - while the university closes for Christmas came from TU/e's community manager Erik de Jong. In consultation with Data Management and Library (under which the library falls), the Facility Management Center and Education and Student Affairs it was decided to extend the opening hours. "We realize that in these times of corona more international students than usual may well be staying put because they cannot travel home. With this initiative, we are giving them the opportunity to come to the campus, to meet others and to study here," says Hofman. The staffing of the library has now also been arranged, so all the lights are green.

Hofman emphasizes that, of course, all the corona rules will remain in force. Study seats must still be reserved online. The library in MetaForum has space for 120 students. Study cabins are also available: eight large (for two persons max.) and eight small (for one person). These can also be reserved via Outlook.

On Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day the library is not open, but it will be on other days during the vacation. No canteens will be open on the campus during this period, as an enquiry made to Monique Kuyck, head of Operational Services, confirms. "But we are working on a nice surprise for our students, together with community manager Erik de Jong." In view of this, De Jong offers the tip that December 23rd and 30th are good days to be studying on the campus.
