The Internship Egghunt

28/03/2019

Every year, around the Easter period, a strange phenomenon took place in which my parents hid away chocolates and other sweets. They went all across the house and sometimes even infested the garden to prepare this yearly sport which I, as a sweet-toothed child, willingly partook in. And thus, equipped with a basket, I went on the hunt.

My favourite chocolates were Lindt which came in bunny and bell shaped packaging and most importantly (for this metaphor) the enchantingly mysterious Kinder Surprises.

Finding one of such chocolates was always a wonderful experience due in part to the chocolate and the surprise toy that they contained, but it was mostly due to the fact that my basket of chocolates was growing larger than those of my brothers. This was after all, like most things involving siblings, a fierce competition.

Looking for internships is quite the same in the sense that like chocolate, you have no idea where they are and have no idea what they entail until you actually open them up and start with them. But the thing is, this process starts with getting in touch with the elusive Easter Bunnies who have yet to be caught by any of my traps or answer any of my emails. Once they do though, and my basket is all filled up, I expect I’ll have to negotiate to make sure I have a toy worth having. But maybe I have it mixed up this time: instead of being the one looking, I’m the Easter egg that needs to be found.

For all the recruiters reading this column, I am looking for an internship!
