Intro Monday in 10 photos: from Limbopad to Grand Opening
The new international students had already had their baptism of fire during the Welcome Days. Monday marked the official start for all new students. It began at the Limbopad, where they were welcomed by the associations, and ended with a big party on the Koeveld.
After registration and a warm welcome at the Limbopad, the new students were introduced to the many study associations. In the afternoon, they took on the Campus Quest, a game designed to help them discover what student life at TU/e is all about.
Party lovers could go all out during the Grand Opening in the evening, while those who preferred a quieter start joined Tangent Track, with activities ranging from board games to bracelet making. Below is a look back at Intro Monday in ten photos.
Gymnastics and cheerleading association Twist even dared to toss incoming first-years high into the air.
Theater association Doppio took a calmer approach to recruiting new members. Anyone up for (improvised) acting or joining a musical later this year could stop by. They even set up theater curtains—temporarily—on the Limbopad.
Student cycling association Squadra Veloce looked every bit the part—rightly so, since cycling is what they do best. But on Monday morning they weren’t making any miles; the Limbopad was far too crowded with first-years making their way to campus on foot.
Study association Thor (Electrical Engineering) gave newcomers a first taste of brassen—the playful student tradition of challenging each other. “Grab the tie and we’ll give you something in return of your choice,” the board members told them. The added bonus: it helps break down barriers between the board and the first-years.
After all the impressions of the Limbopad, it was time for a short break—and to make lunch plans, which this year each group had to arrange for themselves. This particular group was from Mechanical Engineering, easy to spot from afar thanks to the bright orange safety vests worn by their “intro parents.”
During the Campus Quest Exploration, new students got to know the campus in a playful way. By completing challenges, answering quiz questions, or simply scanning a QR code—like at Cursor’s stand (see photo)—groups could earn virtual currency. At Cursor, they could even win a survival kit by signing up for the newsletter.
“Play hard, work hard”, is het advies van rector magnificus Silvia Lenaerts bij de Grand Opening op het Koeveld. Bestuursvoorzitter Koen Janssen (“This will the best time of your life”) en Eindhovens burgemeester Dijsselbloem (“Join the city”) sluiten zich bij haar woorden aan. De introgangers voegden meteen de daad bij het woord (zie hoofdfoto).
