And how are things in Londen?

After an earlier adventure in the United States, it was London’s turn to entertain me for half a year (my BME minor). Studying at King’s College London at the Biomedical Sciences faculty for a couple of months didn’t sound too bad. There were only two things that I thought I wasn’t going to like: being without my friends/girlfriend for half a year and the bad weather that London is so famous for. However, the weather isn’t too bad so far. In fact: in comparison to the Netherlands, it’s actually better!

King’s College is 19th in the QS World University Ranking and I enjoy the way of teaching here. The campuses consist mainly of beautiful, old buildings.

Except my academic obligations, there is also time for recreation. I joined the basketball club (being 2.09 m, you almost have to). I have met a lot of people here and they organise a lot of fun activities, like a Halloween pub crawl. Unfortunately, becoming a member also meant that you had to be initiated. They thought it would be fun to make us wear diapers and tie the wrists of five people together with tie-wraps. That’s how we walked through London and took the tube, business as usual. The night ended with a big party of all sports clubs.

Despite this experience I still recommend joining a (sports) club/society. There’s also a Dutch Society that I joined and once in a while we go to a Dutch pub to drink a pint of Heineken and eat some “bitterballen”! We’ll also celebrate Sinterklaas together.

Studying abroad requires some paperwork, but it’s absolutely worth it!
