Eindhoven technology students in reality soap

There’s a reality soap series in the making: Campus Eindhoven, starring six technology students from Eindhoven. The soap will premiere on network Omroep Brabant in early 2014. Castings will be held at TU/e on Monday, November 11. The university will put forward three of the total of six reality show students.

The idea Omroep Brabant, TU/e and Fontys have in mind with Campus Eindhoven is to put technical study programs in the limelight, and put Eindhoven on the map as a real student city, says Ilse Terreehorst of ThinkFish Media, the production company of the series. The six leads won’t be followed around with a camera 24/7, by the way. The film crew will discuss actual camera time with the students, and either follow them or interview them on what’s on their minds.

Campus Eindhoven will run for twelve episodes of fifteen minutes each. Terreehorst says the first show is planned for February or March 2014, but shooting will start as soon as the ‘reality soapies’ have been cast. Fontys university of applied sciences posted a Facebook status calling for leads, whereas TU/e preselected twenty students at the departments of Built Environment, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics, and Mathematics & Computer Sciences.

“Together with Fontys, we want to present a wide range of technical study programs”, says Sandra Buys of the Communications Expertise Center (CEC). “And we’re also looking to balance the media coverage of the various programs at TU/e. There are some majors at Built Environment that could do with a few more students, for example.”
