And how are things in Oxford?

Second only to an owl carried invitation to study at Hogwarts, is an invitation for a three month project at the University of Oxford. I am currently doing a research project on the creep behaviour of tendon at the Mechanobiology department as a part of my master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, and I couldn’t have wished for a lovelier city or kinder people than those found here.

In contrary to the TU/e, the buildings of the University of Oxford are not situated on one campus, but make up for the larger part of the inner city. They are a collection of historical monuments dating from the 12th to the 18th century (apart from the Engineering department, which is a building that has a closer resemblance to the charms of Gemini-Zuid). If not for the flocks of tourists, a walk through the city centre might as well have been in the 17th century; spacious parks and street corners fit for a retake of Pride and Prejudice.

I am currently living in a large student home, which is exclusively for foreign students. Because everyone in this house is here on a temporary basis, you immediately have a social group to go out and have fun with. We cook together, go to the pub and make daytrips to nearby cities such as London, Cambridge and Salisbury.

If you ever find yourself in the opportunity to do an externship at this University, do not hesitate, I can guarantee that you will not come to regret it. As for me, Oxford has become one of my favourite places in the world!
