This prosperous city is in many ways similar to Amsterdam, but a lot more spacious. It’s numerous picturesque buildings give the city a distinctive character. The first few days I was here, I was really astounded by the many new views to absorb.
For my master studies of Innovation Sciences I followed some courses at the Chalmers University of Technology. Among these courses I followed a course about the Economics of Intellectual Properties lectured by an authority in the field.
But next to the expertise, Chalmers also provides many privileges for its ‘chalmerists’. Right from the start, you feel really at home at the university. The university facilities include a sauna, a pool and a gym right in the student union building and lots of other active possibilities on the rest of the campus.
Chalmers is like a little community, which for me was really useful as it helped me a lot with my discipline. Every day I went down to the community center restaurant to get a hot meal for only 37 SEK ( which comes down to about 4 euros), before and after I went to study in the Kyrkan, a study/chill area at Chalmers with a pool table which I used a lot to hone my skills. Through this I came in contact with a lot of interesting people.
Next to that, my phadder Hanna, the guide who helped me settle in Gothenburg, introduced me to some Swedish guys who like to play chess and so I joined their club. There is something to do here for all kinds of people and Swedish people are very open to help you to find your way. The fact that nearly every Swedish person talks English makes this very easy. A Gothenburger might be a bit surprised that you start talking to him out of the blue, but they turn out to be very willing and helpful.
