Nanolab TU/e to expand thanks to NWO funding

NanoLab@TU/e has been granted 3.7 million euros earmarked for the fabrication of new materials, sensors, and parts with unique nanostructures. The investment is part of the NanoLabNL program Quantum Electrical Engineering (QuEEN), which has received 17 million euros in total. Research financer NWO will be distributing 81 million euros over six scientist teams.

NanoLab@TU/e is the cleanroom in the Spectrum building and is part of NanoLabNL, the Dutch center for research and innovation concerning nanotechnology with facilities in Twente, Delft, Groningen, and Eindhoven. For the Eindhoven cleanroom, the grant means an expansion and improvement of the possibilities to develop materials and structures on a nanoscale.

The money will be used for new machines to grow materials atom layer by atom layer, specialist microscopes to study those layers, and new lithography approaches to be able to create nanopetterns in those materials. The millions have been granted as a result from the National Roadmap Large-Scale Research Facilities. The NWO website has published an overview of all financed projects.
