TU/e wants to promote tap water

Starting next week, TU/e folk and campus visitors can fill their water bottles at a new water point in the hall of MetaForum. The university wants to promote tap water, and with the water point it supports a drinking water project in a developing country through Join the Pipe.

The Dutch intiative Join the Pipe wants to promote the drinking of tap water and aims at ‘a more even distribution of the world’s drinking water’. With the sales of special bottles, carafes, and water points, Join the Pipe is ‘building’ the largest waterworks in the world, while at the same time collecting money for water and sanitation projects in developing countries.
The concept fits ties in nicely with TU/e’s ambitions for a sustainable campus and the concept behind the Green Strop, says Rozemarijn Schalkx, secretary of the Steering Committee Sustainability at TU/e.

TU/e purchased the drinking water point for 3,000 euro. It will be installed left from the large MetaForum staircase, in front of the cafeteria. The water point will be opened during a small ceremony on Wednesday, March 26 at 1.45pm. Prior to the ceremony, Studium Generale will present three short lectures on drinking water (in English) in the Blauwe Zaal, co-organized by the Board Committee Technology for Development. Starts 12.40pm.
