Process technologists successful at NWO

NWO Chemical Sciences has awarded eleven million euros worth of grants last week, and TU/e was particularly successful. The Eindhoven university received a 780,000-euro TOP Grant as well as a ECHO-STIP Grant worth 260,000.

TOP Grants are meant to boost or further develop innovative research projects of established groups. Process technologists prof.dr.ir. Hans Kuipers and dr.ir. Niels Deen, both working within the Department of Chemical Engineering & Chemistry, have received one for their research into fundamental multiscale modeling of transport phenomena in highly complex, reactive three-phase systems (gas-liquid-solid).

Dr.ir. Christian Ottman of the Depertment of Biomedical Engineering at TU/e received an ECHO-STIP Grant, which are meant for researchers with a focus on chemistry. In 2013, Ottman, who received the Young Chemical Biologist Award from the international association for chemical biologists in 2013, is studying the development of new medicine for the treatment of diseases like diabetes and obesity.
