Concert for organ and Tesla coil finale Fysica 2015
This Friday, physicists from all over the country will gather in the Auditorium for Fysica 2015, the annual conference of the Netherlands Physics Association (NNV). More than five hundred physicists working in education, the industry, and science will be treated to a varied program. The day ends with a public evening about light and sound, and a duet by a Tesla coil and an organ.
Traditionally, the Physica Prize is awarded during Fysica. This year, the winner is professor of biophysics Marileen Dogterom, who will give the Physica Lecture on the physics of life processes. There’s a lecture on the Nobel Prize for Physics as well, and Amsterdam professor Erik Verlinde will be presenting his new gravity theory. After these plenary lectures, the afternoon will be split up into six parallel sessions on varied subjects.
Contrary to the English daytime program, the public evening (from 7.15-8.30 p.m.) will be all in Dutch. The evening program is free and will discuss ‘light and sound’, including lectures about the quest for molecular life in space, and building acoustics. The night’s finale is a duet by the TU/e Tesla coil and the university organ, which will perform a special piece. Their performance will be preceded by an explanation of both ‘instruments’.
