Virtual visit TU/e campus online

As of today it is possible to walk across the Groene Loper of TU/e without actually being there. The Communication Expertise Center has made a 'virtual visit' about the campus as an extra tool to recruit international students. TU/e is the first university in the Netherlands to show a virtual reality film about its own campus.

From Limbopad to Flux a route can be ‘covered’ whereby TU/e shows itself in virtual reality, as we know it from Google Street View. You can go into a student bar, almost tumble across the banisters in the library, dance along at a party during the Intro and admire the Eindhoven skyline from the roof terrace on top of Flux. And while looking at the horizon you can even decide whether you want to visit Kennispoort or the High Tech Campus as well.

An international PhD candidate, the Russian Adelya Khayrullina (Department of Architecture, Building and Planning), is the guide. She addresses visitors personally and invites them. “Take a look around.” At 74 points extra info can be obtained in the form of a film, a pop-up window or a photo series. Four student sport clubs (tennis, squash, volleyball and basketball) and three study associations (GEWIS, Van der Waals and Lucid), as well as one-off projects like the 'Sagrada Familia in Ice' can be visited.

Digital visitors see and hear all kinds of things. When crossing the river Dommel via the Limbopad, you hear the water murmuring. While in the Auditorium, you hear the din of voices. When you see trees, you can hear birds warbling.

The footage for Virtual Visit was made at the end of the summer. Production company Capitola took five months to complete the work. The Virtual Visit can now only be seen on the website. In the course of 2016 the virtual tour will also be available for Smartphones, using the gyroscope in mobile devices.
