COSMOS dares TU/e to pillow fight

International student association COSMOS hopes to rally at least one hundred ‘fighters’ for a giant pillow fight in the MetaForum market hall on Saturday, April 4. The event has been organized in light of International Pillow Fight Day. In the Netherlands, the day is also celebrated at Dam Square in Amsterdam and Paaspop Festival in Schijndel, among other locations.

International Pillow Fight Day will be celebrating its seventh anniversary this year and was initiated by the Urban Playground Movement, which was established in 2005. The international network promotes the organization of more playful events in public spaces, from pillow fights to subway parties.

On April 4, TU/e will be the backdrop for a mega pillow fight. “The market hall of MetaForum is used for many kinds of events, and a pillow fight seemed fitting”, says Marius Lazauskas, chairman of the international student association organizing the event. There will be pillow fights from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and COSMOS hopes for about one hundred participants.

Three-euro presale tickets include a pillow from the Swedish furniture multinational. Participants are free to bring their own pillow, but Lazauskas believes that might result in an unfair battle. “We encourage people to buy a ticket, since that way all pillows will be the same, and there will be no uber-super pillows.”

The game doesn’t have too many rules. “We adhere to the rules of chaos and disorder especially”,  says Lazauskas. Participants can keep their pillows afterwards. “Provided the weapons survive, that is.”
