‘Engineers should know about marketing and sales’

“Don’t begin a start-up upon graduating if you want to get rich. You might as well buy a lottery ticket.” Guests in the Blauwe Zaal were treated to a down-to-earth statement from Harold Goddijn, CEO at TomTom. His lecture kicked off the Graduate Week on Monday afternoon.

He believes every engineer must know their way in a number of disciplines. Goddijn: “That means you’ll have to try and understand the sales and marketing department, because only then you will understand your role. And definitely go abroad to see what the world can offer you. After all, future employees will also be small business owners. And they will want to shape their own futures.”
