Two casualties after lift crashing down in Potentiaal

Friday afternoon an employee of a demolition company died while working on top of a lift in the Potentiaal building, when the lift crashed down from the seventh floor. A colleague got severely wounded. Many emergency services turned out to render assistance; an emergency helicopter also landed at the site. The cause of the accident is not yet clear.

The lift plummeted from the seventh floor and got stuck between two floors. The two men were on top of the lift when it came down. Both men work for Heezen demolition company, a subcontractor of Dura Vermeer building firm which is turning Potentiaal into a residential tower block for students.

The severely wounded victim could be rescued around 4.30 p.m.  The SZW Inspectorate (formerly the Labor Inspectorate) is investigating the cause of the accident.
