World Press Photo in Vertigo for first time

Since the Hoofdgebouw is currently unavailable for the World Press Photo exhibition, Studium Generale has moved the exhibit to Vertigo, home to Built Environment. The lobby shows shocking pictures of boat refugees, the MH17 crash, and an execution, among other images.

The Chamber of Commerce no longer participates in the World Press Photo (WPP) exhibition, so there will be no photos on display on Kennispoort. And as the Hoofdgebouw is infested with demolition workers, Vertigo will be the only exhibition area this year. At yesterday’s official opening, WPP’s project manager Laurens Korteweg explained why it’s important the photos can be displayed all over the world. “It’s about the freedom to exchange information without being censored. Those who want to show the photo collection will have to do so in its entirety. It’s not allowed to remove sensitive issues, although they may be set up at a more inconspicuous spot”, said Korteweg.

The exhibition can be visited until October 15.
