Vinz keen on a film association

Among the rich diversity of student associations at TU/e, one important association is missing, believes Vinz Boer (Bachelor's student of Psychology and Technology): a film association. With tactics that include a lighthearted short film, he is making every effort to find students who will help him set up the association.

“I can't imagine how we have managed all these years without a film association,” says Vinz in his monologue lasting several minutes (see short film below), which he has made to whip up enthusiasm among students for a film association. Of the need for an association, he has no doubt. “When you are surrounded by creative minds, you come up with a better product. And once you've got a name as an association, you can get more done and you can organize more activities.” As far as he has been able to find out, few other student cities have a film association.  “In Amsterdam there is just one and in other student cities some associations have a ‘film branch’.”

WANTED: film makers and film lovers

Vinz Boer would like to start a film association.

The Bachelor's student already has a broad range of activities in mind. “We can make all kinds of short films: think of vlogs, mini-documentaries, live streaming a game, short films for Cursor – as well as holding and attending workshops.” Introduction Week is the deadline the enthusiastic student has set himself for getting the association up and running.

He is targeting not only TU/e students, but also other students in Eindhoven. And the association itself will welcome not only film-makers, but also students who are keen to edit and students who want to help set up the association and/or join as board members.

Vinz himself has been making films since the age of twelve. At first, he made vlogs and sketches, later he worked on film projects and aftermovies. He built himself something of a reputation with his take on Gangnam Style entitled Al mijn geld is op [I'm out of money].

Vinz has also been in touch with photography association Dekate Mousa, and while he thinks some cooperation will be possible, he doesn't feel it would be practical for the two organizations to merge into one. “After all, they are different disciplines. We won't be doing any photography and I really want to focus on making short films.”

The student is also looking for an appropriate space, but has not had any luck so far. “I've been in touch with Scala about De Plint, but there is nothing available there. No worries. I'm sure we'll find something.”
