Ruben got seriously ill on Saturday, and he passed away in the hospital a few days later. His parents were already in the Netherlands by then.

Ruben was known as an active, friendly, very motivated, and very good master's student. He was new at TU/e this year, having completed his bachelor's in Italy at the Universita Degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia. He was really looking forward to spending a semester in Switzerland next year. Ruben was a valued member of GEWIS and enjoyed spending time with fellow students with whom he was good friends as well. Ruben will be remembered as a very promising student with his own ideas, taking initiatives to make the best out of his study time and as a bright young man, eloquent, with a clear view of the scientific path ahead of him.

Last Friday, July 14th, there was an informal gathering within the department to commemorate Ruben and to create a space for students and staff to share their thoughts and memories. The TU/e flag flew at half-mast for the occasion. The funeral will take place in his hometown in Italy.

You can leave a personal message for Ruben's family in the online condolence register.

We wish strength to all who knew Ruben Biskupec to give this loss a place. Our thoughts are with Ruben’s family and friends at this most sad and difficult time.

Please remember that help and support are available for students and staff, now and in the future. Staff can contact their department’s HR officer and students can contact the student psychologists via student.psychologists@tue.nl. Please indicate in your message that you would like to talk about Ruben and how his passing has affected you. His friends wrote the following:

In loving memory of Ruben,

Our best mate, what fun we had together.

From the first days in the TU/e bars and events, those early days flew by with plenty of cheap beer, banter, and memories that will stay with us forever.

You were full of life, always doing something, a partner in crime, and the life of the party. Your infectious smile lifted a room and brought out the best in people.

You lived a remarkable life, making friends quickly during your exchange and creating stories that will last a lifetime.

It's hard to believe you're gone; you had so much more to do and live for - the adventures we talked about, the experiences we had yet to share. But we will cherish the memories we do have forever.

Your kindness and honesty were remarkable. You were always there to lend an ear, move a couch, and bring joy to everyone around you. Your ability to turn any situation into a funny moment made life brighter.

You truly touched our hearts. You saw the best in people, and your love and joy spread to all of us.

We'll miss your laughter, your kindness, and your genuine care for others. As well as your uncanny ability to turn the simplest of moments into extraordinary tales, infused with humor, excitement, and pure zest for life. Whether it was hitchhiking to an unknown destination or dancing under the stars until the early hours, your stories always had us hanging on every word.

Thank you for being an amazing friend, for making our time in Eindhoven unforgettable.

We'll cherish the moments we shared, the laughter, and the love you brought into our lives.

Rest well, dear Ruben. Your tale is safe with each one of us, and we'll keep your memory alive forever.

With love and remembrance, your friends (The Eindhoven Crew)
