Currently, employees can only chose from mid-range phones. These include an Apple iPhone SE, a Samsung Galaxy A56 EE and the Fairphone.
The university needs to save money to make up for shortages. This measure to replace high-end phones with mid-range phones stems from the Multi Annual Budget (MBA) project, according to spokesman Ivo Jongsma.
The iPhone SE is quite an old model in the world of smartphones that are rapidly replacing each other. Some operating systems are no longer updated for older models. So how does TU/e ensure a safe phone for these older models?
Jongsma reveals that "the iPhone SE will soon be replaced by a new model called iPhone 16e. We still have a few SEs in stock, we'll use those up first. With all the phones we release, we pay attention to keeping enough years of updates available. In general, that leads to models being replaced every three to four years."
