As Valentine's Day approaches, you'll see them everywhere again: red roses. Why do we associate these flowers with love and romance? Perhaps because in ancient Greece, they referred to the passion between the goddess of love Aphrodite and the handsome Adonis?

Early Christians put a gentle twist on this elegant flower: they believed the rose was an ode to the Virgin Mary and symbolized devotion—think also of the rosary as an aid in prayer.

Many flowers have a special meaning, but none is as well-known as the red rose. Want to let your colleague or fellow student know that they make your heart beat faster? Then Cursor will happily deliver such a meaningful rose, with your message.

Participate

Want to gift a rose? Send an email to cursor@tue.nl with ‘Rose’ in the subject line. Please include your Valentine's first and last name, and whether they are a TU/e student or employee.

Write a short message (maximum 30 words) to your Valentine, which will appear on the card attached to the rose. Cupid will deliver the roses anonymously, so please indicate clearly if you would like to include your own name.

Note: Valentine's Day is on Saturday, February 14, but Cursor will hand out the roses on Thursday, February 12.

The rules

  • Cursor is giving away a maximum of 100 roses, while supplies last.
  • Only TU/e students and employees are eligible to participate.
  • Sending a rose is free.
  • You may request a maximum of one rose.
  • You can apply via cursor@tue.nl until Monday, February 9, at noon.
What's next?

Cursor will inform the lucky recipients in advance that they will receive a rose from a hopeful admirer. Is your Valentine an employee with an office on campus? Then Cursor will deliver the rose there—provided the location is listed in Outlook.

Students can pick up their rose on Thursday, February 12, in MetaForum. Between 12 and 2 PM, you'll find a clearly marked Cursor table on floor 1, near the reception.
