De Lismortel, the road that runs parallel to the Blauwe Loper pond, provides access to, among other locations, the student housing complexes Haven, Alpha, and building S3. “The road is really due for maintenance. In some places, potholes are already starting to appear,” says Jonathan Smit, communications advisor at Campus & Facilities.
Six weeks
The work will be divided into four phases. As a result, the road will never be fully closed, but always partially accessible (see photo caption for phase dates). The exact disruptions and alternative routes will vary per phase.
“We will make sure there is always sufficient detour signage in place,” Smit explains. The works will have no impact on parking availability.
The works are also part of preparations for the construction of Area19 and the new cleanroom, which will start next year. “That will involve a lot of construction traffic on campus. So good roads are extra important,” Smit says.
In addition, De Zaale will be partially closed in 2027, meaning De Lismortel will be used more intensively as an alternative route.
Reuse
With sustainability in mind, the stones from De Lismortel will be reused as much as possible. The same applies to the large amount of sand currently stored at P9 — the parking lot at the end of De Lismortel. Observant passers-by will also see a large number of trucks transporting sand over the coming weeks, passing through the roadworks.
These trucks will move the stored sand from P9 to Field 3 — the field in front of Pendulum. Jonathan Smit explains: “This sand was left over from previous projects and will be reused there for the construction of Area19.”
