Do you know TU/e’s emergency numbers?

TU/e has two dedicated emergency numbers: one for urgent situations and one for less-urgent incidents. To bring these phone numbers more to people’s attention, a campaign will start on Friday to help with this. “People who know the emergency numbers generally feel safer on campus,” says Margot Wolfert-Boesveld of Campus & Facilities.

Is there an immediate danger or a life-threatening situation? Call 040-2472222. Another type of incident or request for help? Call 040-2472020.

These two phone numbers are not new. However, an anonymous survey conducted by the Student Advisory Organization (SAO) earlier this year showed that 34 percent of students do not know how to reach university security. “That was reason for us to start a campaign so that more people know the emergency number, to contribute to a greater sense of safety,” says Margot Wolfert-Boesveld of Campus & Facilities (C&F).

Beer coasters

On Friday, during the first day of the TU/e Intro, the campaign will officially start. “We thought that would be a good moment to immediately inform the new students here properly,” says Wolfert. To bring attention to the number, an animation (see main photo) will be shown on the screens across campus throughout the entire Intro period. “And it will also be shown on the large LED screen at the Intro stage, around which many Intro activities take place.”

Specifically the number for acute emergencies will also be distributed on beer coasters. “These will be available at the bars of all student associations during the first quarter,” says Wolfert. On the coasters, bar-goers will find a mathematical code, with the phone number (040-2472222) as its solution. “But there is also simply a QR code that allows you to save the number directly to your contacts.”
