TU/e mailboxes afflicted by spam

Many students and staff have been finding spam in their e-mail inboxes since yesterday. The e-mails seem to come from fellow TU/e folk, but they’re actually sent from a spam server.

ICT Service is currently working on blocking the links in the various messages. “We hope to be able to avoid trouble by doing so. After all, it’s clicking the links that lead to viruses and harmful malware being installed on the systems”, says Marian de Vaan, who sent a warning e-mail on behalf of the Service this afternoon.

The Service urges students and staff members to forward any suspicious e-mail messages to abuse@tue.nl. Furthermore, ICT experts stress the importance of good anti-spam measures and point to the manual that they wrote to that end. CIT Service staff members were unavailable for an update on the matter this afternoon.
