Another twenty years of TU/e radiopharmaceuticals

GE Healthcare will continue to produce radiopharmaceuticals on TU/e grounds for another two decades. Last Monday, TU/e and GE Healthcare signed the twenty-year contracts. Radiopharmaceuticals are radiolabeled compounds used for diagnostics in hospitals. TU/e has been involved with the production of these radioactive isotopes since 1975.

The radioactive compounds produced on campus are used all over Europe to diagnose cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and brain disorders. The production of isotopes is realized with the new cyclotron (ring-shaped particle accelerator) that was installed by TU/e daughter AccTec BV in 2003, and a radiopharmaceutical laboratory TU/e rents out to the Dutch branch of GE Healthcare BV.
