Female Chemical Engineering students start women's association
Three female students of Chemical Engineering felt their department could do with more 'female events'. Eveline Hermans, Marijne Timmers and Nicky Meertens therefore decided to found an association: Women in Chemistry Eindhoven MyST. They've planned a kickoff lunch on Monday, which will be the very first event of the student association for (former) female Chemical Engineering students.
"It's our experience that our study association doesn't organize too many events that are especially appealing to women", says Marijne, the brand new chairwoman of the new association that was founded in late 2013. "Women are a minority at Chemical Engineering, but we still feel it's important to organize activities for that small group. Besides, the numer of females at our department is ever-increasing."
The three students want to organize more cultural activities, invite more women to speak at lectures, and 'not visit companies that focus on chemistry exclusively'. Marijne: "We aim at social and educational activities. Student association Japie likes to organize beer events, and women aren't always into those. And since many female students have a wider scope when it comes to their professional interests, we'll be visiting a consultancy agency. Other than that, we'll take into account the requests of our members.
The constitutional social will be held on Wednesday, January 15 in F.O.R.T. (Matrix 0.57) from 6-8.
