New signage on campus getting closer

Within several weeks, pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers should be able to find their way around campus with ease. Last Friday, locations for the new signs were determined, and their colors were set off against their surroundings. Signs inside campus buildings won’t change much for now.

New signs will provide directions to buildings, and there will be signs at buildings as well. The Auditorium, for example, will be graced with numerous signs. Cubes at the periphery of the terrain have to guide pedestrians and cyclists to campus. Buildings will all be fitted with a clearly visible number, which should be successive, meaning building, 1, 2, and 3 are close to each other. Currently, that’s not the case.

Parties involved will advise on the signage, and final decisions on the design will probably be made in February. The signs in the buildings themselves will not change much for now, although the second floor of MetaForum will be equipped with slightly more, slightly larger signs, says Toon Verhaar of DH. “We won’t be changing anything on the fourth through eighth floor right now. The plans for Campus2020 still require a lot of moving around, and residents aren’t sure about the new names, either.”

There will be a presentation on the outdoor signage in lecture hall 2 in the Auditorium on Thursday, February 27 from 12.45-1.45PM
