New signage on campus almost completed

Nearly all bicycle signs have been put up and most buildings now have posts indicating the building name and its residents. Eight new signs with maps will be erected on campus shortly, as well as large ANWB posts, and visitors will find directions at parking lots. It’s safe to say the new signage on campus is well underway, and all signs are expected to be put up by the end of March.

The larger TU/e buildings will soon be endowed with no less than 22 so-called identification signs in total. Seven smaller buildings will be marked by smaller signs, including Gaslab and Tuimelaar. Catalyst, the Twinning Centre, and Fontys are the only buildings that may not receive signs similar to those on the rest of campus. Contrary to other plans, those signs are now in English as had been requested by the Executive Board.

Late last year, ten small signs have already been posted along the edge of campus to guide cyclists. For some buildings, extra options should be explored - the Sports Center, for example. Thijs Mooren, account manager at DH: “Apart from only bicycle signs, we’ll put up signs for pedestrians as well so they can find their way to the sports field.” The bicycle parkings are fitted with signs, too. There are twelve so far, and the last one will be posted at at Flux.

Drivers can resort to seven ANWB signs referring to the closest parking and a digital display showing the number of parking spaces left. Finally, nine signs displaying free parking spaces will be put up at the individual parking lots. Mooren expects these parking signs to be up and running by late March, when the paid parking system will go live as well. That will mark the conclusion of the whole operation.

TU/e has also requested to put up a large university logo near the institute’s main entrance, which the city is currently reviewing. DH is working on having the new address added to TomTom.

Late 2013,  a study showed campus signage could do with some improvement. The company Designworkplan worked with DH on the design, and put up the new signs.
