Connections for the new walkway between Gemini and Flux.

De Wielen closed off for new walkway

In September, part of De Wielen will be closed off for the construction of a new walkway between Gemini and Flux, the new home base of Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering.

The new Flux building will be connected to the other TU/e structures by means of the characteristic walkways. There will be three new ones: between Flux and Gemini, between Flux and Cascade, and between Flux and Spectrum. The old walkways that connected N-laag to other buildings will be demolished. The passage between Cyclotron and Flux will not be replaced. This week they’ll start on the demolishing of the walkway, and restoring the facade of Cyclotron.

The walkway between Gemini and Flux over De Wielen will be constructed starting from early September. Foundation for the support structure has been poured already, but for the actual construction De Wielen must be closed off. All traffic will be diverted.

The construction of Flux is ahead of schedule, says ing. Boudewijn Elmans of DH, member of the Flux project team. “We expect to have completed construction by mid November. The move will be scheduled in close consultation with the departments involved, and we may even be able to start that before the year’s end.”
