Fire in student house De Vriesstraat
On Tuesday morning, a major fire broke out in a student house at De Vriesstraat in Hemelrijken, a neighborhood in the district of Woensel. The fire was probably caused by two students cooking on an electric stove. The students were able to leave the house safely, says news site Eindhoven Dichtbij.
The blaze came through the roof of the student house between Boschdijk and Kruisstraat, and ash clouds were visible from all over Woensel. According to Eindhoven Dichtbij, the fire department sent a heavy rescue truck, and De Vriesstraat and surrounding area was closed off. As a precaution, several homes in the vicinity of the fire were evacuated.
The news site states the students were cooking on an electric stove when things took a turn for the worse. Eindhoven Dagblad reporter Ad de Koning posted on Twitter saying residents were Chinese. The fire department assumed everyone had left the house a little after 12 p.m., “but does not know how many people were inside”, De Koning said via Twitter.
The fire was under control, around 1.30 p.m., but the fire department will probably not be ready before the end of the day until it will be extinguished completely. Whether the house was inhabited by TU/e students is unknown.
