The residents of WASSADAMO Charter House De Baronie at Geldropseweg do all kinds of things together: they study, drink, eat, cook, go out, and take (weekend) trips together. “We're just really close”, is their unanimous conclusion. For student of Applied Psychology Stephan de Geus - nickname Lord - a resident at De Baronie is typically up for anything and competitive.
Where does the house name originate from?
“Beats me”, says Jeff Jochems, student of Biomedical Engineering at TU/e. But he does know where the name WASSADAMO comes from, the charter they are all members of. It's an acronym for 'We are such stuff as dreams are made on', a line from Shakespeare's The Tempest. What he meant is you have to make the most of life yourself.”
Recipe: Pasta with ham and mushrooms in gorgonzola sauce
The dish is prepared by five people (it would have been six if House Elder Han Raaijmakers had been home earlier) and enjoyed by six.
Cut 650 grams of mixed mushroom in strips and use 950 grams of diced ham. Brown the ham in some butter and add the mushrooms 5 minutes in. Add 150 grams of Gorgonzola to a bottle of cooking cream. Add the cream to the mushroom mix. In the meantime, cook 900 grams of penne. Pour the sauce over the strained pasta and sprinkle the contents of a 250-gram packet of grated cheese over the dish.
Enjoy!

Do you have any rituals?
“When you leave the house, you must wear the House Pants at your hit-the-road dinner. After dinner, you must take off the pants and present them to the House Elder. But we didn't make it this year as everyone was too drunk already, so we moved the ceremony to breakfast. We have a white faux sheepskin coat that's worn to charter events or when we go out, and that has to be transfered when you leave, too”, says Han Raaijmakers.
