Dinner @ Leenderweg 220

Cursor visits a studenthouse in Eindhoven every two weeks. The cooks reveal their secret recipes and we get to know the house and it's inhabitants. This time: Dinner @ Leenderweg 220.

What kind of house is this and does it even have a name?
Residents at Leenderweg House are all friends. They rent privately. During their freshman year at Sustainable Innovation, Bas Verkaijk, Noud Jaspers, Rein Westdijk, and Joost Poldervaart decided to move in together. They don’t regret anything so far, although they haven’t found a fun name either. According to Bas, Leenderweg House “doesn’t make sense, as Leenderweg is pretty long and there are sure to be more student houses.”

Do you do things together these days?
They occasionally grab a beer or watch a movie. They’re too busy do anything else, really. No time for athletic clubs, but they do have jobs on the side and some are student board members. All three having dinner will take a gap year as soon as they’ve completed their bachelors. Bas is a member of STORM. Noud has a job, is a DJ and makes electronic music. Rein has started on his master track, but he’s also on the Team Energy board.

You’ve been living together for two-and-a-half years now. Has anything changed?
Noud: “We don’t okay beer pong as much as we used to. We’re all very active this year, and we’re older, so we don’t stay up as late to party. Our hangovers have become more inconvenient.”

Recipe: We get the griddle

Go to AH (or any other supermarket, ed.), grab any meat with a 35-percent-discount sticker, a few baguettes, herb butter, mushrooms, a red pepper, and an onion. Be sure to buy a container of cheap, filling potato salad as well. Bas and Noud came home with four baguettes and an assortment of 15 (!) meats. Dinner is for three.

Have one of the housemates cut the veggies in tiny strips and slice the baguettes.

Put a 30x100 cm griddle in the middle of a coffee table surrounded by three couches.

Transfer the potato salad to a fancy bowl, but only if you’ve dropped the original plastic container.

Turn on radio, place meat on griddle, open beer. Good times!
