Dinner @ Nol Imbo’s

Cursor visits a studenthouse in Eindhoven every two weeks. The cooks reveal their secret recipes and we get to know the house and it's inhabitants. This time: Dinner @ Nol Imbo, Aalsterweg 38.

What’s the house like?
This SSRE house is home to eight women who are all members of various charters. Two of them (Eline Mulders and Mancy Delen) are students at Fontys, the others are TU/e students. The ladies are passionate about good meals, even though their kitchen is small and filthy. They claim there are surprisingly little catfights in the house. If there are any discussions at all, it’s about oatmeal, or applied sciences versus academics. “Fontys always wins”, says Mandy.

Why do you sometimes sleep on the roof?
“You can see stars on clear nights,” says Anna de Vries (second-year student of Chemical Engineering), “and since we don’t have boyfriends we might as well do romantic stuff together.” One of the girls wonders if we could mention all seven of them are single. Here you go! Number eight, who couldn’t be here tonight, is taken.

Recept: Chicken Madras with a personal touch

Eva van Hattum end Evelien Hopman, both in their second year of Industrial Engineering, are making chicken curry for seven. They belong to the ‘oatmeal group’. The oatmealers prefer healthy meals, as opposed to the sausage-roll group - obviously.

Bring 600 grams of brown rice to the boil
Dice 1 kg of chicken breast and brown in olive oil in a large pan
Dice 2 red peppers and add to the chicken. Add curry powder and turmeric to taste (lots). Everything will turn bright yellow
Bring 500 grams of broccoli florets and 500 grams of cut string beans to the boil and boil for five minutes. Strain and add to the chicken
Add one can of coconut milk and a dollop of yoghurt
Serve rice and chicken curry separately.

Enjoy your meal!
