Eindhoven Student Hotel to open as early as February

February may not be the most favorable time to start a hotel that aims at international students, but Managing Director Felix Hillen of Student Hotel expects to make a flying start in Eindhoven nonetheless. Today there was a sneak preview in the hotel under construction, which is located right next to the Eindhoven railway station.

Of course, the most favorable period for opening a new student hotel is at the beginning of a new academic year. Be that as it may, the construction of the four-hundred-room Eindhoven Student Hotel, which will soon be the fifth branch of this international chain in the Netherlands, is ahead of schedule and will be put into service even in February 2017. The management is counting on an eighty-percent occupancy rate.

The twenty-four floor giant at Stationsplein is currently in the completion phase. The common areas on the first three floors, where it will be possible to dine, meet, sport, study and relax, are now no more than bare concrete spaces. On the fourth floor a mock-up of a room may be admired and of a kitchen that ten occupants will need to share before long.

These rooms are the cheapest ones: as of 680 euros per month. An individual room without a kitchen will cost you 759 euros per month. Included are the facilities on the first three floors and the use of a bike. Washing and drying of laundry is also possible, but it's not free of charge.

The target group for this rapidly expanding chain is formed by foreign short-stay guests who are coming to study at the university, for expats who are coming to work for high-tech companies in the region and businessmen sojourning in Eindhoven temporarily. In the summer months the rooms are intended to be occupied by participants in summer schools.

Student Hotel is not worried about a possible saturation of the market for these groups due to the two new residential tower blocks on the TU/e campus. “Anywhere where we have opened branches so far we have had a 100-percent occupancy right from the start”, says Managing Director Felix Hillen.

Hillen explains that his Student Hotel will be more than just a hotel. “Here in Eindhoven we will have a professional, well-trained team of some eight to nine persons, who will also take care of the well-being of our guests. If there are any problems within a group or with an individual student, these people can offer help. In addition, it is a safe environment in the heart of the city center. Parents of foreign students appreciate that very much indeed."
