Yes, this week's Intro will be different, because it'll be corona proof and partly online. But the organizing Central Intro Committee and the student associations emphasize: 'By no means it will be a boring week!'.

The number of corona infections among (first year) students has increased in several university cities. GGD Zuidoost-Brabant declared that the number of infections or cluster transmissions in Eindhoven has not climbed significantly.

Intro 2020 | The Intro on-the-line

Getting to know each other online really is something else. While the first group of freshmen finally got to visit our campus today, the second cohort underwent another day behind their laptops. The good news is: they get to roam our campus tomorrow. Our video reporter followed an online group from the Built Environment department for two days. And trust us: now they are READY for the real thing!

Intro 2020 | Sports and games easily corona-proof

An egg race on a sheet two by two meters. A thirty-meter sprint with your opponent one meter fifty away and a soap tackle track that disinfects you in one fell swoop. Walking onto the field outside Aurora, you are greeted by a scene that seems almost like any normal Intro: every aspect of group sports and games is here and that means there’s also plenty of opportunity to get to know the associations behind the fun. With undiminished enthusiasm, the Intro kids are taking part.

Intro 2020 | Social student associations all go online

Due to corona, the Intro needed some serious adjustments and there are far fewer physical meetings. In the run-up to the press conference of August 6, the entire introduction week even seemed to have to be canceled, but the Central Introduction Committee only had to make minor adjustments. However, the consequences for social student associations are much greater. For example, the club houses cannot open to potential new members and the parties cannot continue as usual. But SSRE, the Eindhovens Studenten Corps and DEMOS refuse to let their heads hang low and come up with creative alternatives to still be able to interest the intro kids for their associations.

Intro 2020 | “We're going to teach you how to learn”

In her speech to the new first-years, Professor Ines Lopez Arteaga, Dean of the Bachelor College, told her audience that first and foremost TU/e is going to teach them how to learn. “Because learning won’t come to an end when you have completed your bachelor’s or master’s; you will need to carry on learning for the whole of your professional life.” Rector Frank Baaijens trusts that the Intro, even in its modified form, will give students the opportunity to make new friendships.

Tight schedules for the Introduction Week

How to welcome 3,000 new students at TU/e during a period in which 1.5-meter distance is the new standard? The Bachelor's Introduction Week and Master Kick-Off have been adjusted in such a way that it’s still manageable. There will be many online activities, but also a few days with physical visits to the campus. After the Introduction Week, attention will still be paid to a feeling of unity among all new students.
