Students flaunt party ban: Covid infections rise during introduction weeks
The number of corona infections among (first year) students has increased in several university cities. GGD Zuidoost-Brabant declared that the number of infections or cluster transmissions in Eindhoven has not climbed significantly.
In my opinion | Social distancing during Introduction Week
This is what I felt after watching how the Introduction Week went last week. I know that this week is important for bachelor’s students, enabling them to get to know the campus and to get to know each other by forming groups. But it is quite a challenge to organize such a social event at this difficult time.
Intro 2020 | The recap
How did you experience the TU/e Introduction week? And what did you think about the other kids in your group, or your buddies? On the last days of the Intro our videoreporters invited pairs of kids or buddies to our Cursor chairs for an interview. "What is the naughtiest thing the other one has done this week?"
Intro 2020 | Make a Tinder profile for your buddy
They are having to make do with just two offline days this week. At Data Science the business case consists of assignments linked to the program and with an element of fun. A good way to get to know each other. A real shame that a handful of students cannot take part; they are still in quarantine this week.
Intro 2020 | Let’s hear it for the suits
Buddies Tom van der Mark and Koen van Ginneke are greeted by a welcoming round of applause. Their kiddoes in group 21 Mechanical Engineering are putting their hands together for them in appreciation of their appearance in tuxedos. This the price Tom and Koen are paying for losing a bet.
Intro 2020 | Gadget mania among the superheroes at GEWIS
No, gadgets are not required, and we are seeing far fewer of them this Intro, but gadgets do add an extra frisson of fun. That’s the view at Cursor, but we’re not entirely impartial. Happily this notion has been joyfully embraced by study association GEWIS of Mathematics & Computer Science; and they’ve put a lot of thought into how gadgets fit into their super heroes theme.
Intro 2020| Community Radio hands the mike to the associations
For everyone who wants to listen, but especially for our prospective first-years, TU/e Community Radio has once again created a studio so that it can broadcast throughout the whole of Intro. On five afternoons and two evenings, the three-strong team is handing the mike to the associations. Between the tracks being played, this is a relaxed way for Intro kids to pick up some info about TU/e’s sports, cultural and social associations.
Intro 2020 | Social student associations all go online
Due to corona, the Intro needed some serious adjustments and there are far fewer physical meetings. In the run-up to the press conference of August 6, the entire introduction week even seemed to have to be canceled, but the Central Introduction Committee only had to make minor adjustments. However, the consequences for social student associations are much greater. For example, the club houses cannot open to potential new members and the parties cannot continue as usual. But SSRE, the Eindhovens Studenten Corps and DEMOS refuse to let their heads hang low and come up with creative alternatives to still be able to interest the intro kids for their associations.
Intro 2020 | 'By no means a boring week!'
Yes, this week's Intro will be different, because it'll be corona proof and partly online. But the organizing Central Intro Committee and the student associations emphasize: 'By no means it will be a boring week!'.
