More registrations for Vitality Week than ever before

More than a thousand registrations, likely caused by a combination of being home a lot and the fact that the organizers addressed their promotional mails to both employees and students this year. The annual Vitality Week, aimed at promoting a healthier lifestyle, is organized at TU/e for the fourth time. Things will be a bit different this year though, due to corona.

The health check and fit check can’t take place this year, for example, says Joyce Schonenburg, event coordinator at the Student Sports Centre (SSC). “These checks take place physically at the SSC, which leads to extra traveling. In addition, it’s not possible to comply with the one-and-a-half-meter distance rule during these checks. We decided that the Vitality Week will take place fully online this year.” That has its advantages as well: “Taking part is easier now,” Schonenburg thinks.

That might explain the significant increase in registrations, her colleague Manon van Lint, coordinator health and vitality at the SSC, believes. “You don’t have to leave your house to take part. And I also think there’s a greater need for (physical) distraction now that everyone works from home. Health and mental health are current issues anyway.” This year, addressees for the Vitality Week’s promotional mails also included students for the first time. “That might have contributed to the extra registrations, although the majority are still employees,” Schonenburg says.

Healthy food

Food is a vital part of a healthy lifestyle. That is why TU/e has made some videos to inspire you to cook healthy meals at home. For tonight, we suggest a stuffed bell pepper with lentils, dates, couscous and walnuts. The other recipes and other videos about vitality can be found in the special playlist.

And there are also more activities this year, 23 in total, ranging from webinars about healthy nutrition to yoga in your living room. On Thursday, November 12, the organizers already received 1030 registrations, compared to about 500 last year. “Activities with a limited number of participants are full. For example, 77 people registered for the yoga class on Monday, and most people who registered don’t have a sports card.” A sports card, incidentally, isn’t compulsory if you want to take part.

Registration is officially closed by now, and most events are full. There are a few spots left for the fit breaks, online lessons and webinars. In case you forgot to register and would still like to take part, you can send an email to the organization. All activities are free of charge. The Vitality Week takes places from November 16 till 20.
