On Thursday, the Kring (circle) of Chief Editors of Higher Education Media presented its annual awards for the best journalistic productions. The awards are given during the Kring Congress. This year there were three categories: photo, column and feature story.
The award for the feature story was won by Annebelle de Bruijn and Marjolein van der Veldt of Delta with their research "Victims of social unsafety always draw the short straw at TU Delft".
According to the jury, “As narrators, they do not shy away from taking the reader by the hand and leading them through a world of fear.” In their article, the authors highlight the social unsafety of university employees, and they show how difficult it is for victims to speak out.
Column and photo
The column category was won by Adriaan Duiveman of Vox (the magazine of the Radboud University) with his column on “contraire academics”. According to the jury, Duiveman writes “accurately and not unspiritually” and “in a few hundred words he manages to gallantly make mincemeat of overly woke critics.”
This year, visitors to the Kring Congress were also allowed to cast their votes for the best photo. The award went to Romain Beker, photographer for Folia (of the University of Amsterdam). He took a photo of a pro-Israel UvA alumnus and a pro-Palestinian protester in March, when some forty UvA alumni handed in their diplomas in protest of the university's Israel policy.
