It was with disbelief and profound sadness that we learned of the unexpected passing of Olivier Schim van der Loeff, bachelor’s student at the Department of the Built Environment and Commissioner of Education on the 40th Board of study association CHEOPS.

Through his role at CHEOPS, many of us came to know Olivier as a dedicated and highly engaged member of our community. He cared deeply about education and about the experiences of his fellow students. Through his commitment and involvement, he made a meaningful contribution to the development of our educational program and to the wider Built Environment community.

Olivier was social, warm-hearted, and a familiar face to many. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a special ability to bring lightness to even serious situations. His kindness, openness, and genuine interest in others made him a valued board member, fellow student, colleague, and friend.

Olivier’s absence leaves a great emptiness in the community to which he contributed so much. We will remember him for his warmth and humor, his dedication to others, and the positive difference he made during his time with us.

Our thoughts are with Olivier’s family, friends, fellow students, and everyone who knew and loved him. We wish them strength and support as they face this immense loss.

Olivier, thank you for everything you brought to our community. You will be greatly missed.
