ID students to Canada on memorial grant
Three students and a PhD candidate of Industrial Design have received a scholarship to study in Canada. They were presented with a Victory in Europe Scholarship worth ten thousand Canadian dollars in light of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands by Canadian military.
Students Doenje Oogjes, Anne Spaa and Tijs Duel, and PhD candidate Veranika Lim are the lucky recipients. They heard about the Canadian scholarship from Ron Wakkary, professor at TU/e and Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, where he supervises the Everyday Design Studio, student Doenja Oogjes explains in an e-mail sent from Vancouver. “Tijs, Anne and I took Ron's course Unaware Objects this spring, and he asked us to come work with him in Vancouver.”
Oogjes traveled to Vancouver a month ago and will stay until at least August to finish her graduation project. Anne Spaa and Veranika Lim have also started at Simon Fraser University, one of three universities in British Columbia for which Dutch graduate students and PhD candidates could apply through the grant. Apart from the four TU/e delegates, seven other Dutch students were awarded the ten-thousand dollar grant (about seven thousand euros).
