“We’re all members of Thor, and since six months we’ve been living here with EE students only. So yes, you could say this is an Electrical Engineering type of house”, says third-year student Thomas van der Werff. The roommates just arrived home from Walhalla, their study association’s hangout, and would say they are ‘laid-back geeks’ who enjoy doing stuff together: grocery shopping, eating, having a beer, and - if Stefan Molenschot is to be believed - watching the same TV shows over and over again.
Do you have any rituals?
We yell ‘party!’ whenever someone goes to the bathroom”, says Elwin Hameleers. As you may expect of an EE house, their toilet is fitted with disco lights and radio. Going number two is aptly called ‘disco shitting without pleelist’ (a pun on ‘plee’ being Dutch slang for toilet, ed.). If someone stays the night, they have to do the dishes. Whenever we feel like it, we’ll shout ‘Hello, this is Nienke’, because we once received a letter with that as its opening sentence. It was funny enough to use to this day”, Tom adds.
