Learning at your fingertips with the new Staff Learning Hub

TU/e has launched the Staff Learning Hub, a new online platform that brings staff learning opportunities together in one place. Employees can now browse a wider range of courses, easily sign up and track their learning, and have more flexibility in when and how they develop their skills.

“The Staff Learning Hub aims to make learning at TU/e more user-centric and scalable,” says David Bell, project manager within the HRM Strategy & Programs team. “At the moment, we already have a very good Learning & Development offering for staff, but most of it is delivered in person. With the Learning Hub, we are introducing more online learning opportunities, making them accessible to more staff.”

“With the platform, we also wanted to improve the online experience for staff, for example by making it more convenient to sign up for courses, but also by giving them the opportunity to share and recommend courses to their colleagues. So we focused on creating a user-friendly interface,” he explains.

In addition, the team purchased licenses from a major online content provider, giving staff access to a wide range of additional courses that are completely new to TU/e. “We carefully selected this content to ensure it is relevant to the needs and interests of TU/e staff,” Bell adds.

One central place

Another benefit of the new platform is that, alongside content from external providers, TU/e departments and services can also create and share their own learning content. For example, the Research Support Office (RSO) helps academic staff with grant applications and develops e-learning courses and training materials that can be shared via the platform.

“This also means that all these learning materials are brought together in one central place, rather than getting lost in email inboxes or Teams channels,” Bell emphasizes.

Discover, track and manage your learning

The Learning Hub is linked to each staff member’s TU/e account, so when you follow the URL, you are automatically logged in. On the homepage, you can find personalized learning recommendations and see whether you have any mandatory learning to complete. You can also browse a catalogue of learning opportunities, organized into different categories such as communication, AI and digital literacy, and leadership.

The platform keeps track of the courses you have signed up for and provides a dashboard showing what you have completed so far. “With everything in one place, you can easily discover, track and manage your learning,” says David Bell.

Mandatory courses

The platform includes mandatory learning. At the moment, there are three mandatory onboarding courses for new employees, covering data privacy, health and safety, and social safety.

Besides, there are mandatory courses that depend on your role. For example, PhD students are required to complete a course on scientific integrity, which is already available through the platform.

Learning more flexibly

According to Bell, the biggest benefit of the new Learning Hub is how simple and user-friendly it is. With one central URL and filters pre-selected based on your role, staff can find what is most relevant to them within just a few clicks.

The online learning opportunities also give employees more flexibility, allowing them to learn anytime, anywhere, without having to fit learning into an already busy schedule. This makes learning more convenient and accessible for staff.

“We want to see the vast majority of employees using the platform. Ultimately, we hope it will help people develop their skills and thrive in their roles, or move into new roles and advance in their careers,” Bell concludes.
