Oh. I see my name followed by the message “Here’s what’s happening on Twitter“. Great. Returning to earth, I realize these e-mails are mere Twitter notifications about the people I am following.

There was another very famous Twitter notification once. It read something along the lines of: “Congratulations! You are among the first <small number> most favorited Twitter profiles.” Again, the message filled me with joy. I immediately updated my Facebook status to notify my friends of the happy news. Well, it turned out I wasn’t the only one who had notified their friends. A Google search revealed that Twitter had sent that very notification to many, many people. Yep, it was a marketing strategy. Oh well. Nice job, Twitter.
